Moses Lake Mud Flats and Sand Dunes

Got here on a Monday in late September. It was almost empty. The weather was really nice—not too hot, not too cold.

There is plenty of space to park here and pitch a tent. It’s all on sand. There are three bathrooms—vault toilets. I picked a spot behind the first one, where the sand was not so deep. There is access to Moses Lake close to the third bathroom.

There was one local long term camper set up close by, and an RV down the road, but the area was mainly being used by ORVs.

The bathrooms were not the cleanest and didn’t have paper, but they were okay. I heard no noise after about 9:00, but it was Monday, so it was not too busy.

On Tuesday morning, I woke up to rangers setting up an area for training or testing. It was pretty cool to watch.

The flies came on Tuesday. I think because I was the only one sitting in the middle of nothing. There were massive amounts of them. More people arrived on Wednesday. Even more on Thursday. Noise level went way up. Saturday was packed.

People have a huge variety of toys they play with here. The coolest was a motorized thing with a parachute. It’s called a paramotor.

The town of Moses Lake is only a few miles away, with most of the major stores. This is a pretty nice place, as long as you don’t mind a lot of people and noise on the weekends, and dust, sun, and power lines all of the time.
